GLEN COVE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say an 81-year-old woman has died in a house fire on Long Island.

The Nassau County Police Department says an officer found her unconscious after forcing open the front door to the Glen Cove home around 4 a.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police haven’t released the woman’s name.

Several local fire departments worked together to extinguish the blaze at the house, on Briarcliff Avenue. One Glen Cover firefighter suffered a minor hand injury.

Authorities are investigating what caused the fire, but police say it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
