DEWITT, N.Y. (AP) - A sheriff’s detective conducting surveillance outside an apartment building in central New York has been injured by glass after two gunmen fired at his car.

The shooting happened at about 6:30 p.m. Monday outside the Springfield Garden Apartments in DeWitt.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/2j0hb74 ) that an Onondaga County sheriff’s detective was sitting in his unmarked car in a parking lot when two men approached him and started firing into the car.

Authorities say the bullets narrowly missed the detective but he was injured by shattered glass.

The detective was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Police asked residents to stay inside while they scoured the area for the suspects. But no arrests have been made.
