Film director Joss Whedon caused a backlash on Twitter Tuesday after he compared President Trump’s daughter Ivanka to a Pekingese dog.

Mr. Whedon, who wrote and directed the 2012 superhero film “The Avengers” and its 2015 sequel “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” made the comment in a profane tweet about Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, who currently serves as President Trump’s senior adviser.

“Hey, keep your eyes on this f—ing prize too,” he captioned a photo of Mr. Kushner. “He’s a Voldemort in training, & unlike the Pekingese he married under, can play the long game.”

The tweet was bombarded with negative responses, but remained on Mr. Whedon’s account as of Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Whedon went on to call Mr. Trump a “dictator” and posted a meme calling on followers to “keep pissing” off the president.

Trump will never get over the fact that what he won was basically the world’s biggest participation trophy,” he wrote Wednesday.

Mr. Whedon’s tweet about Ivanka Trump and her husband came just days after he called Nicole Kidman a “puppet” for urging people to accept Mr. Trump’s election.

The filmmaker also made headlines earlier this month for an explicit tweet about House Speaker Paul Ryan.

“Violence solves nothing. I want a rhino to f—k @SpeakerRyan to death with its horn because it’s FUNNY, not because he’s a #GOPmurderbro,” he wrote.
