TOPPENISH, Wash. (AP) - A 25-year-old Toppenish man was fatally shot while riding in a car near Toppenish.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( https://bit.ly/2i95hlS ) the slaying early Sunday morning was the second homicide in Yakima County in 2017.

Chief Criminal Deputy Ed Levesque says Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to a shooting on U.S. Highway 97 around 4:45 a.m.

Levesque says Juan Palomino was riding as a passenger in a car headed north on the highway when another motorist fired several shots, one of which hit Palomino in the head.

Palomino was driven to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wound.
