HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve arrested 16 people involved in a major heroin and cocaine operation on Long Island.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2u810sY ) Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced the arrest of the 35-year-old leader of the drug ring along with 15 others Tuesday. Prosecutors say the 35-year-old man Queens man presided over an operation that involved distribution throughout the county.

Prosecutors say the ringleader collected more than $12,000 every three days from drug sales.

Authorities seized several pieces of evidence including $100,000 in cash, a kilo of heroin, and nine luxury vehicles.

A news conference with Suffolk County prosecutors, Suffolk police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
