CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa minor league baseball team has joined with Cedar Rapids Police and others to roll out a new youth program called “Catch with a Cop.”

Over the next few weeks, Cedar Rapids police officers will be making six stops at the Jane Boyd Community House and Kids on Course University, a Cedar Rapids summer camp for kids, to connect with children on a more personal level by having a game of catch.

On Aug. 20, both the officers and children who participated will be invited to attend a free Kernels game with the opportunity to play catch on the field with Kernels players before the game.

Those wanting more information, including the dates of visits, may contact Ryne George with the Kernels at 319-896-7617 or by email at [email protected]
