SHELTON, Conn. (AP) - Police have identified the man found dead in the water near a Connecticut boat launch.

First responders were called to the Sunnyside Boat Ramp in Shelton around 2 p.m. Wednesday after receiving multiple 911 calls of a man in the water who seemed to be in distress. The man’s body was found after a 2 ½ hour search.

Police say the man is 46-year-old Willard McDonald, of Stratford.

LT. Robert Kozlowsky says the area is for boat launches and multiple signs say “no swimming,” but people still swim in the area.

A cause of death has not been released. An investigation is ongoing.
