SHIRLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a body found in the water off a Long Island park matches the description of a missing swimmer.

According to Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2vlv3OW ), Suffolk County park rangers recovered the body around 7 a.m. Monday off Smith Point County Park on Fire Island.

The Coast Guard says the young man’s friends summoned help after he failed to surface around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

Another friend was rescued from the water by a park ranger.

Lifeguards say they posted rip current warning signs before going off duty an hour earlier.
