BEND, Ore. (AP) - A Central Oregon hospital is scaling back its expansion plans because of finances.

The Bulletin reports (https://is.gd/CMu4Cb ) the St. Charles Health System Board of Directors on Wednesday approved a modified plan for a new tower at St. Charles Bend.

The new plan reduces the tower from four stories to three. The tower to be completed in 2019 will add 24 intensive care unit beds and 28 inpatient beds, down from what was previously proposed.

St. Charles barely turned a profit through the first four months of the year and has been looking at ways to cut costs. An expansion is necessary to meet demand in the fast-growing part of the state.
