SELMA, Ala. (AP) - No charges are being filed after an alleged robbery attempt led to a fatal shooting in Selma.

Police in the west Alabama city say a man and a woman arriving at home late Wednesday were confronted by an armed man as they exited their car.

Authorities say the male victim was shot during the robbery attempt. But he also reached for his own gun and shot the would-be robber.

Police didn’t file any charges in the shooting. Grand jurors will review what happened, but District Attorney Michael Jackson says state law allows people to defend themselves and use deadly force if needed.

WSFA-TV (https://bit.ly/2rN3g89 ) reports that police identify the dead man as 20-year-old Tyner Rose of Selma.

The wounded man was treated and released from a hospital.
