PHOENIX (AP) - Longtime Phoenix weather anchor and TV personality Dave Munsey has retired and done his last newscast after more than 40 years on the job.

Mayor Greg Stanton declared Thursday “Dave Munsey Day” to mark the weatherman’s final day at Fox10. The mayor called Munsey “the most trusted name and face in local news.”

Munsey is best known for the catchphrase “watch your kids around water,” and he ended his last broadcast with the sign-off.

A friend of Munsey lost a young child in a drowning death at a lake in Minnesota, and he responded by making it his mission to promote water safety. The catchphrase became synonymous with Munsey.

Munsey started at the station in 1975.
