DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A former North Carolina sheriff’s deputy is accused by authorities of having sex with a student while he served as a resource officer.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office told local media outlets that former deputy Christopher L. Kelly was fired in April after an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor. Warrants for his arrest were written Monday.

Kelly, who was arrested on Monday, is facing multiple charges, including statutory sex offense with a child, sex acts with a student and second-degree kidnapping. Kelly had worked as a school resource officer at Northern and Hillside high schools since he joined the sheriff’s office in August 2013.

An online search of jail records didn’t indicate Kelly’s status following his arrest.
