BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. (AP) - A man has been arrested in the death of a man whose abandoned car was found in a South Carolina cemetery.

Spartanburg County Master Deputy Darren Dukes said in a news release that deputies found the car early Sunday.

Deputies determined the car was registered to 67-year-old Boyce Wayne Pye of Boiling Springs. Officers were asked by another man to check on Pye and he did not answer the door.

Officers then contacted 28-year-old Joshua Caleb Ellis of Boiling Springs, who lived nearby.

Dukes says after talking with Ellis, officers forced their way into Pye’s home and found he had been beaten to death. Coroner Rusty Clevenger said an autopsy is planned Monday.

Ellis is charged with murder and armed robbery. It was not known if he has an attorney.
