HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The body of a girl reported missing after a day of play at the Tangipahoa River is believed to have been pulled from the waterway near the camp grounds where she was last reportedly seen.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says nearly 100 responders from multiple agencies searched two days for 9-year-old Gabrielle McCoy, who disappeared in the river’s rushing water Sunday. Her body was recovered Tuesday about 7 a.m. about two miles south of the Highway 40 bridge near Serenity Sands Camp Ground.

The child’s body was taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Corner’s Office for positive identification
