BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department this weekend is taking part in a national campaign to crack down on drunken boating.

The agency is participating in “Operation Dry Water” through Sunday. Game wardens on the water are focusing on informing boaters about safe boating and removing impaired operators.

The goal of the nationally coordinated effort is to reduce the number of accidents and deaths associated with alcohol and drug use on waterways. Game and Fish says alcohol use is the leading contributing factor in recreational boater deaths.
