WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a 6-year-old boy was shot in the head in Delaware’s biggest city.

Wilmington Police say in a statement that patrol officers received a report of gunfire Tuesday afternoon. The officers found the boy and a 31-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

The boy was taken to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children where, police say, he is in critical condition. The woman, who was shot in the arm, is in stable condition at another hospital.

Detectives are investigating the shooting.
