SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart is ending his campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., citing family health issues.

The Democrat’s campaign confirmed the news on Tuesday.

The Spokesman-Review says Stuckart announced last winter that he would challenge McMorris Rodgers, and had raised more than $69,000 in the most recent filing period.

McMorris Rodgers is fourth in the leadership of the U.S. House and has generally coasted to victory since she was first elected in 2005.

Former Washington state legislator Lisa Brown has previously said she is considering a run for the office.
