LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - The Longmont Police Department and its K-9s will no longer accompany landlords during apartment inspections.

KMGH-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2rLuI3w ) a Longmont police spokesperson said Tuesday the department would be discontinuing the practice because it simply “wasn’t something the department felt it should be involved with.”

A Longmont tenant first alerted KMGH-TV that her landlords were having the police tag along during the inspections, raising concerns over tenants’ Fourth Amendment rights.

Police needed consent from the apartment tenant to be able to enter the apartment, something the tenants were unclear if they were giving when they consented to the landlord inspection.
