CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Kody Shubert scored 25 points to help Lincoln Charter beat Durham Kestrel Heights 97-75 in Saturday’s Class 1-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men’s championship game.

Shubert also had six assists and made 16 of 19 free throws for the Eagles (30-4) to be named the game’s most valuable player. Lincoln Charter shot 59 percent for the game for its first state title.

Jackson Gabriel added 19 points as one of five players in double figures for Lincoln Charter, which took over in the second quarter to build a 46-34 lead at the break.

Kestrel Heights rallied in the third to within six, but Lincoln Charter closed the quarter on a 10-1 run to push the lead back into double figures.

Javier Rogers scored 31 points to lead the Hawks (31-2), who shot 51 percent.

Lincoln Charter scored 25 points off turnovers and hit 23 of 30 free throws.
