BATH, Maine (AP) - The Maine Department of Transportation says reconstruction of the viaduct that carries U.S. 1 traffic through Bath is ahead of schedule.

Glenn Philbrook from the MDOT said the $15 million project is three weeks ahead of schedule.

The original timetable had the work being completed by Memorial Day, to avoid traffic snarls with heavier traffic in the summer.

The elevated highway will look much the same after work is completed but there are improvements to sidewalks, crosswalks, signage and lighting.
