MURRAY, Utah (AP) - Authorities are warning the public about a suspicious person who reportedly tried to lure a young child into his car with candy in Murray, about 10 miles south of Salt Lake City.

KUTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2nulLvN) that police say the child’s parents reported hearing a man talking to their 3-year-old daughter and offering her candy near their home on Sunday.

The parents say the man, who appears to be in his 40s, had been holding their child’s hand before he eventually saw them and drove off.

The child was unharmed.

Police say the man drove away in a silver Hyundai from the 2000s.

Authorities say they don’t believe there is a threat to the public.
