LAKEPORT, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say three men were killed when the car they were in sped off a road, careened off a fence, hit a tree and burst into flames in Northern California.

The California Highway Patrol says the single-vehicle crash happened Saturday in the Kelseyville area of Lake County.

CHP Sgt. Nenad Gorenec says the 2010 Chevy Camaro was traveling at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop at an intersection and flew off the road.

Gorenec says the men likely died on impact with the tree before the car became engulfed in flames.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Sunday (https://bit.ly/2r9TB8K) that the victims were burned beyond recognition. The coroner will try to identify them through dental records.
