WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Police in Massachusetts have charged a man who they say shot another man outside of a strip club and then passed the gun to a friend.

The Telegram & Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2qhEmgf ) that 27-year-old John Mendez, of Fitchburg, was charged with armed assault with intent to murder and other offenses early Sunday.

Police say Mendez shot a man twice in the legs outside of a Worcester strip club around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say Mendez then passed the gun to his friend, 25-year-old Alexander Vera, who placed the gun in his pants.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police say Vera, who has a gun license, said he fired the weapon himself. Officials say security footage contradicts Vera’s account.

Vera was charged with misleading a police investigation.
