WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Motorists using Business Interstate 40 through a North Carolina city will need to find alternate routes as work crews prepare to close some lanes at night.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports the work in Winston-Salem is scheduled to begin on Oct. 23 as part of a highway improvement project. The N.C. Department of Transportation said the inside lanes of Business 40 will be closed nightly at the Peters Creek Parkway interchange from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. so that workers can build the center bridge supports for the new parkway bridge.

On Oct. 25, the contractor will detour eastbound Business I-40 traffic onto the Peters Creek Parkway exit ramp. Drivers will re-enter Business I-40 using the on-ramp from midnight to 6 a.m. nightly.

The closures will last until early December.
