Anthony Bourdain is being ripped on Twitter by Hillary Clinton’s associates and supporters after he criticized the former Democratic presidential nominee for her delayed response to the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Mrs. Clinton has faced widespread criticism for waiting five days to finally condemn Mr. Weinstein after the initial news broke of numerous sexual harassment allegations against the Hollywood mogul, who is also a prominent Democratic donor. In an appearance on CNN, Mrs. Clinton briefly addressed Mr. Weinstein’s donations to her campaign efforts, saying she planned to give the money back to charity.

Mr. Bourdain, an outspoken liberal and boyfriend of Weinstein accuser Asia Argento, said Mrs. Clinton’s apparently flippant response about the donations was “shameful in its deflection and its disingenuousness.”

“[K]now what Hillary Clinton is NOT? She’s not stupid. Or unsophisticated about the world. The Weinstein stories had been out there for years,” the celebrity chef tweeted. “Mindless Hillary hate aside, this was a terrible response to questions about a ‘friend’ who’s been tormenting women for decades.”

“I have met Hillary Clinton. I liked her. I admired much about her. This interview was a real disappointment,” he wrote. “And please..this is not about blame or equivalency. My feelings about Mr. Trump are well known. No one should take satisfaction from this.”

Mr. Bourdain’s remarks were swiftly criticized by Mrs. Clinton’s supporters, including her communications director, Nick Merrill, who told the celebrity chef to “get a grip.”

Mrs. Clinton’s former campaign spokesman, Brian Fallon, also chimed in:

Adam Parkhomenko, founder of the Ready for Hillary super PAC, called Mr. Bourdain’s comments “sad.”

Numerous other verified Twitter users came to Mrs. Clinton’s defense and accused Mr. Bourdain of misogyny.

Ms. Argento, an Italian actress and Mr. Bourdain’s girlfriend, came forward this week in a piece for The New Yorker, accusing Mr. Weinstein of forcibly performing oral sex on her against her will in 1997.
