Spa Week is back again, the semi-annual event where nationwide houses of relaxation offer special deals for their best treatments at bargain prices. And right here in the nation’s capital, District-area house of unwinding are rolling out deals for the stressed among us.

For Spa Week, which begins Monday and runs through Sunday, spas in the capital region are offering signature treatments for the bargain price of only $50 — marked down from fees often running into the hundreds of dollars. I tried out the facial treatment at the Red Door Spa located at Pentagon Row in Arlington, Virginia.

I’ve had many massages — and even some pedicures — over the years, but this was my first facial, and thus I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. My therapist first puts a cloth over my eyes as she brings in a rather bright like to find all the, uh, “imperfections” on my skin. (I’ll admit, I have plenty to choose from.)

She then used aromatherapy, massage techniques and various skin peels and other tools to kick those nasty blackheads and blemishes from my face. I’m a little nervous at having such poking and prodding right up in my business, but the combination of cleansing and purging of the sub-dermal ickies left me feeling rather more refreshed than I might have dared expect.

The proof is in the pudding, as both my girlfriend and my mother told me I had a definite “shine” about me following the procedure!

In addition to Red Door, locations in and around Washington participating in Spa Week treatments include Elements Massage in Vienna, Virginia; Neha’s Salon and Spa in Pikesville, Maryland; and Touch Studio of Massage in Dupont Circle.

Bookings are now open. Visit SpaWeek.com to find a treatment option near you.
