BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The city council in Burlington has approved plans to redevelop a downtown mall.

Councilors voted 11-1 in support of the 45-page draft agreement on Monday night.

Developer Don Sinex has been working with the city for nearly three years on plans to redevelop the Burlington Town Center.

WPTZ-TV reports the $225 million project includes tearing down the current mall, and replacing it with new retail space, apartments and offices and rebuilding parts of Pine Street and St. Paul Street.

Sinex says construction is expected to start within the next week.
