LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a swimmer who died after he was pulled from the rough waters at a New Jersey shore beach last month.

Weining Liu was with his family at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park in Long Branch when he entered the water on Sept. 23. But the 34-year-old Piscataway man apparently got caught in a rip current, one of several spawned by Hurricane Jose as it passed well east of the New Jersey coast.

Liu was pulled from the water a short time later by a surfer who happened to be in the area. He was taken to a hospital a short time later but died there that day.
