ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York man has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of his toddler daughter who had been beaten by the man’s girlfriend.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Michael Stagles pleaded guilty Friday in a Rochester court to criminally negligent homicide.

Stagles admitted that he failed to take life-saving measures for 3-year-old Brook Stagles after she was beaten by Erica Bell last November. Prosecutors say she punched the girl in the stomach but didn’t seek medical help for Brook and prevented others from doing so.

The girl later died from internal injuries.

Bell was convicted of murder Sept. 29.

Stagles said he didn’t know Bell had injured his daughter, but admitted he knew Brook was very sick yet still didn’t her to a doctor.
