LEONI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Police say a vehicle driving the wrong way on a central Michigan highway collided with an oncoming vehicle, leaving two people dead and three others hospitalized.

Witnesses told police a Mini-Cooper was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 127 when it collided about 8 p.m. Friday with a northbound Ford Escape on the eastern edge of Jackson.

Police say the crash killed both drivers, a 50-year-old Parma Township woman in the Mini-Cooper and a 42-year-old Hudson man in the Ford. Their names were not immediately released.

The Jackson Citizen-Patriot reports three passengers in the Ford were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
