Capitals star Alex Ovechkin has a hat trick in back-to-back games.

Ovechkin scored three goals in the first period during the Capitals’ home-opener Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens, two days after he reached the same feat in Ottawa.

Ovechkin now has six goals in just 25:19 of ice time. He’s taken 12 shots.

On Saturday, the 32-year-old had his first two goals in the first three minutes of the game. He ripped a shot past Canadiens goaltender Carey Price 20 seconds into the game, and later scored on the power play with 17:09 left in the period.

His third goal came off a deflection from Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Against the Senators, Ovechkin scored his hat trick in less than seven minutes apart in the third period. The Russian helped rally the Capitals from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game, which Washington won 5-4 in a shootout.

The Capitals lead 4-0 at the first intermission.
