ROCKAWAY, N.J. (AP) - The parents of a kindergartener say she was mistakenly put on a school bus and then left alone at a bus stop before she walked home by herself.

The 5-year-old, who made it safely home without incident, attends the Dennis B. O’Brien school in Rockaway. Her parents say she’s never ridden a school bus before because they drive her to school.

The Record (https://njersy.co/2xZ5hAT) reports the school’s principal told the girl’s parents that a breakdown in communication caused the problem on Sept. 29.

The girl attends daily aftercare at the school, which is noted on a tag attached to her backpack. But a staffer using an outdated transportation list thought she was supposed to be bused home.

It’s not clear if the driver who left the girl alone at the bus stop is facing any disciplinary action.
