CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A hospital arts program, a landscape painter and a guitarist are among the winners of the 2017 Governor’s Arts Awards in New Hampshire.

The awards from the State Council on the Arts will be presented Nov. 1 at the New Hampshire Institute of Arts in Manchester. The award was created by a Berlin sculptor with the goal of promoting outstanding achievement in excellence, growth and availability of the arts in New Hampshire.

The winners include Richard Whitney who is known for his realistic landscape paintings; Fred Dolan who carves decoys; Randy Armstrong who has been praised for his unique guitar playing; Susan Strickler who heads the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester; a therapeutic arts program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock; and the city of Nashua for its funding of the arts.
