SEATAC, Wash. (AP) - The King County Sheriff’s Office says a man told investigators he shot and killed a would-be burglar Thursday as the burglar tried to break into a room where his two toddlers were sleeping.

SeaTac police responded to the home just after 11 a.m. and found a man lying next to a bedroom window, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The sheriff’s office says the 35-year-old homeowner told deputies he heard a noise in the room where his toddlers were sleeping, and that when he went to check it out he saw two suspects trying to break in through the window.

According to the sheriff’s office, the homeowner said he fired multiple shots, striking one suspect, and the other ran off. Police searches with dogs and a helicopter failed to turn him up.
