CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island police department is holding a citywide diaper drive in an effort to help the victims of hurricanes Irma and Harvey.

Donations are being collected at Cranston police headquarters until Sept. 25. WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2h1VTFY ) the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 301 have donated $2,000 to the cause.

Once the drive is concluded, the collected donations will be shipped to the Texas Diaper Bank in San Antonio and the HWG Foundation Inc., in Pinellas County, Florida.

Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist says the drive is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together to make an immediate impact for those in need.
