DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Davenport police say they expect officers to start using body cameras by the end of the year.

The Davenport City Council is slated to vote Wednesday on a $550,000, six-year contract with Axon to purchase 150 body cameras and related accessories. The move comes after police officials spent a year testing and researching products from various vendors.

Police Chief Paul Sikorksi says once the camera purchase is approved, the department expects it to take six to eight weeks to receive the product and train staff to use it.

Sikorksi says body camera video will be treated as a public record, but says video will not be released if it could compromise an investigation.
