Jane Fonda said it was “weird” that NBC host Megyn Kelly decided to ask her about plastic surgery during an interview Wednesday, saying it probably wasn’t the appropriate “time and place” when she was there to promote her new movie.

Just three days into her first week of “Megyn Kelly Today,” the former Fox News host elicited an awkward reaction from Ms. Fonda after she praised the actress for being “an example to everyone in how to age beautifully” and asked how she felt about her plastic surgeries.

“I read you said you felt not proud to admit you had work done. Why not?” Ms. Kelly asked.

Ms. Fonda shot back incredulously: “We really want to talk about that now?”

Ms. Kelly laughed, saying, “One of the things people think about when they look at you is how amazing you look.”

Ms. Fonda responded, changing the subject, “Good attitude, good posture, take care of myself. But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, ‘Our Souls at Night,’ rather than plastic surgery.”

Ms. Fonda later told ET Canada that she found the line of questioning “weird.”

Asked if she was shocked by the plastic surgery question, the actress responded, “A little bit. I mean, given the fact that we don’t have a lot of time and [Robert Redford] is right here.”

“It’s a weird thing to bring up — whether I’ve had plastic surgery or not,” she added. “I have and I’ve talked about it. Seemed like the wrong time and place to ask that question.”

Mr. Redford, who sat alongside his co-star on Ms. Kelly’s show, wasn’t as affected by the question.

“I wasn’t paying a lot of attention,” he told ET Canada.

Ms. Fonda and Mr. Redford appear together again on-screen for “Our Souls At Night,” launching Sept. 29 on Netflix.
