WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina say an officer was hit by a car and dragged after attempting to serve an arrest warrant.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports Winston-Salem police said the officer was trying to serve the warrant Thursday at a convenience store when he was hit by the car and briefly swept under it.

Winston-Salem Police Capt. Chris Lowder said the unidentified officer was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening. Officials haven’t said what type of warrants the officer was serving when he was hit.

After the initial incident, police chased the unidentified suspect, whose vehicle hit a utility pole and crashed into another pole in a parking lot.

Authorities didn’t immediately say whether the suspect was injured or what charges he faces.
