LANDOVER, Md. (AP) - The Latest on a fatal shooting by police in Maryland (all times local):

5 p.m.

Police in Maryland are identifying a man who was fatally shot by an officer after authorities say the suspect grabbed a gun during a struggle.

Prince George’s County Police identified the man Friday as 40-year-old Gregory Campfield Jr. of Landover. Police say officers were investigating a report Thursday of a man who was selling drugs and often carried a gun when they approached Campfield.

Police say Campfield ignored commands to show his hands and fled. An officer then tackled Campfield and warned fellow officers after seeing he had a gun. A second officer also said the suspect was holding the gun. Police say the struggling officer shot Campfield and then provided medical aid.

Police say Campfield was taken to a hospital, where he later died. A phone number listed for Campfield wasn’t in service.

The officer who fired is on routine administrative leave. Police haven’t yet released his name.

A man shot by police in a Maryland suburb of Washington has died.

News outlets cite an early Friday tweet from Prince George’s County police announcing the man’s death.

Police Chief Hank Stawinski said officers from the emergency services team and narcotics enforcement division responded Thursday to a tip about a person “terrorizing” the community and selling drugs. Stawinski says the suspect fled and was tackled by two officers. At least one officer fired up to three shots when police say the suspect reached for a gun in his waistband.

Stawinski says drugs, cash and a gun were recovered from the scene. No officers were injured.

The man died at a hospital. His name hasn’t been released.

The shooting took place near FedEx Field.
