SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego County has agreed to settle lawsuits filed by twin boys who alleged social workers failed to protect them from years of abuse by their foster father.

Federal court documents filed Tuesday show an agreement was reached on Aug. 9. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The boys sued the county and 14 social workers in 2016. The San Diego Union-Tribune says they alleged authorities ignored or didn’t properly investigate more than a dozen reports of suspected child abuse by Michael Hayes.

Hayes pleaded guilty in 2014 to molesting the twins and another boy. He’s serving more than 20 years in prison.

The settlement also covers a suit by one boy who accused government attorneys of improperly accessing his confidential juvenile files.

County officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
