BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) - The police chief of Bellevue has been placed on paid administrative leave as another police department investigates allegations reported against him.

The city said in a statement Friday that Police Chief Steve Mylett was placed on leave starting Thursday.

It said the allegations were reported to the Bothell Police Department and stems from an alleged incident in that city more than a year ago.

Bellevue City Manager Brad Miyake said the city takes such allegations seriously and that it’s city policy to place a police department employee on leave when there is a criminal investigation involving the employee.

Bellevue will also conduct an internal investigation.

Assistant Police Chief Patrick Arpin will serve as acting police chief for the city just east of Seattle.

Bellevue is the state’s fifth largest city with about 142,000 people.
