MOUNT MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A Flint-area couple has been charged with murder, child abuse and torture in connection with the death of their 2-year-old daughter.

Thirty-two-year-old George Bingaman and 23-year-old Destiny Bingaman are jailed following their arraignment Thursday.

Paramedics were called Monday to the family’s Mount Morris Township home on a report that the girl was not breathing. Emma Rose Bingaman later was pronounced dead at a hospital.

County Prosecutor David Leyton says the girl was underdeveloped and undernourished. There also were bruises on her body and other signs of physical abuse.

Leyton said Emma was born prematurely at 27 weeks and suffered some developmental delays and seizures.

Two other children, ages 4 and 1, have been placed in temporary foster care.

Court records did not list attorneys for George and Destiny Bingaman.
