BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts commuters got a special surprise when the Mass Pike opened at full capacity a day ahead of schedule.

Officials announced Sunday morning all lanes would be open beginning Sunday, a full day before the previous opening date of Monday.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says all four lanes, along with all on and off-ramps are open.

The Turnpike was reduced to one to two lanes of travel in late July.

Closures from the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Project in Boston will continue throughout the week as planned.

Pedestrians and bicyclists still have access to the Boston University Bridge.
