ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A community on Long Island is the latest winner of a downtown revitalization contest put on by the state.

Central Islip will receive $10 million in state funding for efforts to make its downtown more attractive to residents, visitors and businesses.

Cuomo visited the community on Wednesday to announce the news.

A panel of local officials and community leaders will work with professional urban planners to finalize plans for the money.

Earlier winners have used the funds to improve parks and open space, upgrade roads and transportation networks and support efforts to bring new residential and commercial developments downtown.

This is the third round of the contest revitalization contest. Other recently announced winners include Saranac Lake, Watertown, Batavia, Auburn, Rome and the South Bronx.
