BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Officials in a Vermont municipality say a proposed skatepark could cost up to $80,000 more than expected.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the Select Board voted Tuesday to approve applying for a grant to cover up to $85,000. Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Director Carol Lolatte says the department is seeking funding through a Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative Community Grant. Officials have raised over $230,000 for the skatepark.

Brattleboro Area Skatepark Is Coming Committee chairman Jeff Clark says the Tony Hawk Foundation had estimated the project would cost $46 per square foot while Stantec Action Sports says the park could cost up to $70 a square foot. Officials plan to review costs with Stantec.

Organizers believe they may receive some help from local businesses.
