RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Department of the Interior has announced that Virginia will receive a grant of nearly $407,000 to improve boating infrastructure and provide opportunities for outdoor recreation.

State partners will provide an additional $239,000 in matching funds, bringing the total to about $646,000.

The Virginia Department of Health proposes to help Rappahannock Yachts with the construction of a dedicated transient floating dock with 18 slips, five linear moorings and restroom facilities.

The grant announced Friday is part of $14 million in Boating Infrastructure Grant funds being awarded nationwide.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service program provides funding through excise and other taxes on certain fishing and boating equipment and gasoline to support dedicated boat tie-up facilities and associated amenities.
