BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - Bethel Search and Rescue responders have recovered the body of a man who died in the Kuskokwim River.

Bethel radio station KYUK reports searchers Monday recovered the body of Mark Kasayulie (kah-SEYE-lee) of Bethel.

Kasayulie and five family members, including his wife and three children, on Sunday night left Bethel for Akiachak (AK-ee-ah-chak) with a snowmobile pulling a sled.

They went into the river in a marked hole that may have been hard to distinguish from surrounding glare ice.

The five others were able to pull themselves out. Searchers reached them in about 45 minutes and transported them to Bethel for treatment of hypothermia.

Bethel Search and Rescue President Mike Riley says travelers are being urged to use overland trails because of open holes on the river.
