TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man police say was shot and stuffed into the trunk of his vehicle that was towed to a wrecking yard in Tacoma where the body was discovered.

Pierce County sheriff’s detectives tell The News Tribune in a story on Friday that they’re trying to figure out what led up to the death of 49-year-old Tracy Sehmel.

Authorities say Sehmel’s Saturn sedan was towed on Wednesday and that workers at the wrecking yard found the body in the trunk on Thursday.

Police say it’s not clear why Sehmel’s vehicle was parked in the area from where it was towed.

Sehmel in 1991 was convicted of first-degree manslaughter after punching a man at a pool hall.
