WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison in the strangulation death of her newborn daughter.

NJ.com reports that 21-year-old Jade Fanz of Franklin Township was originally charged with murder and other counts but pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree reckless manslaughter.

Gloucester County prosecutors said following Friday’s sentencing that Fanz must serve 85 percent of her sentence before she will be eligible for parole.

Authorities say the crime came to light when she visited a hospital for treatment of an apparent medical complication related to the birth.

Fanz has been behind bars since the child’s body was found Feb. 27 on the property of her family’s Franklinville home.
