BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Buffalo say two men who were collecting driftwood drowned in the Niagara River.

WIVB-TV reports it happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Foot of the Ferry.

Buffalo police say one of the men was trying to recover some driftwood and began to struggle. The other man then went into the water to try to help him.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
